Mark Palmer

Tech Assistant

Extensive experience in technological roles has given Mark auspicious preparation for his role as Tech Assistant at Live Oaks. Born in Rochester, N.Y., Mark studied Automotive Technology at Canton Technical College and earned a B.S. in Teaching Technical Subjects from SUNY Oswego (State University of New York). After graduation, he taught high school automotive tech for several years; worked for Chevrolet Motor Division in Boston for eight years; and then took a job as a training center instructor with General Motors in Buffalo, N.Y. He then covered several states as a field engineer for the corporation moving into Service Research at their offices in Detroit, Mich., where he worked for 11 years. After leaving GM, Mark continued working in the automotive tech field until retiring in 2016.

Joining LOCC’s staff in October 2022, Mark is involved in video production, editing, and backup for weekend services (both campuses), and provides tech support for special events, concerts, and holidays as needed. He and wife Jan (a former editor and features writer) were high school sweethearts; they married in 1971 and have made The Villages their permanent home since 2017. Their five grown children (two boys, three girls) and five grandchildren reside in New York, Michigan, and Illinois. In his free time, Mark enjoys fixing computers, repairing cars, and photography.
