The Return of The King ep. 7: The Church in Sardis
“A person who is spiritually dead can still be very religious, very active, and very respectable.”
– A.W. Tozer
This past weekend we heard Jesus’ urgent words to the church in Sardis, a community that appeared alive but was spiritually asleep. We were reminded that reputation is not the same as resurrection life, and that outward activity cannot replace inward renewal. Christ, who sees beyond appearances, lovingly calls His people to wake up, strengthen what remains, remember the gospel we first received, and walk in ongoing repentance. His warning is real, yet so is His promise: those who respond will be clothed in white, secure in His salvation, and joyfully acknowledged before the Father.
Key Takeaways
– Spiritual vitality begins with honest evaluation before the Lord, allowing Him to search and awaken our hearts.
– Remembering and returning to the gospel guards us from drifting into empty routine.
– Christ’s promises to the faithful assure us that obedience today echoes into eternity.
