The Return of The King ep. 25: The Furious Dragon and the Faithful Remnant
“Nothing happens outside of God’s permission and God’s control. He is sovereign over the world, and His purposes will come to pass. There is no enemy that can withstand the Lord. Every event that is past, present, and future is all under God’s control.“
– Pastor James Armstrong
This weekend, we studied Revelation 12:13–17, “The Furious Dragon and the Faithful Remnant.” After Satan is cast down from heaven, his war against God’s people intensifies. Yet even as the dragon pursues, God faithfully protects, provides for, and preserves His people. The passage reminds us that while spiritual opposition is real, God’s sovereignty is greater, and His purposes cannot be defeated.
Protected by God’s Provision
The dragon relentlessly pursues the woman, but God intervenes. He provides “eagles’ wings,” a prepared place in the wilderness, and even causes the earth to swallow the dragon’s flood. God’s rescue does not always remove us from difficulty, but He faithfully sustains us through it. We can trust that He is always working ahead of our needs and that every season of hardship is under His sovereign control.
Living as the Faithful Remnant
The dragon ultimately turns his fury toward those who “keep the commandments of God and hold to the testimony of Jesus.” As believers, we are called to remain steadfast in both our obedience and our witness, even when following Christ brings opposition. Our confidence rests in the truth that we are not facing a victorious enemy, but a defeated one whose time is limited and whose plans will ultimately fail.
Up Next
Join us next week as we begin Revelation 13 with “The Beast from the Sea” (Revelation 13:1–10). We’ll explore how the dragon works through earthly powers to oppose God’s people and discover how believers can remain faithful and discerning in a world that increasingly challenges their allegiance to Christ.
