I Am Ep. 6: The True Vine

“The branch of the vine does not worry and toil, and rush here to seek for sunshine and there to find rain. It rests in union with the vine. So shall you abide in Christ.”
– Hudson Taylor

This past weekend, we explored Jesus’ final “I AM” statement before the cross: “I am the True Vine.”

Just as a branch cannot survive apart from the vine, we cannot thrive apart from Christ. True life, growth, and fruitfulness flow only from remaining connected to Him. Everything else eventually withers.

“Abide in Me, and I in you. Just as a branch is unable to produce fruit by itself unless it remains on the vine, neither can you unless you remain in Me.” — John 15:4

To abide in Jesus means to stay close, to depend on His presence and draw strength from His Spirit. It’s not about trying harder, but staying near to the One who makes life possible.

Key Takeaways:

  • Abiding in Jesus is the only way to bear lasting fruit.

  • God lovingly prunes our lives so we can grow stronger and reflect His character.

  • The goal isn’t productivity. It’s intimacy with Christ that leads to transformation.

This first week of Advent centers on HOPE, and hope has a name. Jesus came to dwell among us so we could abide in Him. Every light we see this season reminds us that the Light of the world has already come and remains with us still.

So as we move from Thanksgiving into the Christmas season, may our gratitude deepen. Not just for the blessings in our lives, but for the greatest gift ever given: God with us.

Jesus reminds us that He alone pierces the darkness. Come ready to celebrate the One who brings light and life to all who follow Him.
