I Am Ep. 2: The Gate

The door of God’s mercy is thrown wide open, and Christ stands in the door and says to sinners “Come.”
– Jonathan Edwards

Last weekend, we continued our I AM series with one of Jesus’ most comforting yet counter-cultural claims: “I am the Door.”

In a world that insists there are many ways to God, Jesus makes it clear. There is only one way to enter true life, and it’s through Him. Shepherds in the ancient world would sleep across the opening of the sheepfold, literally becoming the “door” that kept the flock safe and guarded against predators. That’s the image Jesus chose for Himself.

He isn’t a barrier. He’s the passage. Through Him we find security, belonging, and abundant life that can’t be stolen by thieves or destroyed by false promises.

Key Takeaways:

Jesus is not a way to God; He is the way. Salvation and safety are found in Him alone.

The world offers countless “gates,” but only Jesus leads to life that lasts.

When you enter through Jesus, you are welcomed, known, and protected by the Shepherd Himself.

Every door leads somewhere and Jesus invites you to walk through the only one that opens to freedom and eternal life.

Up Next: “I AM: The Good Shepherd” (John 10:11–16)

Jesus not only guards the flock, He lays down His life for it. Next week we’ll see the heart of the Shepherd who knows His sheep by name and leads them with sacrificial love.
