Ecclesiastes ep.8: Words That Matter
This past weekend, we continued our Chasing the Wind series with a message titled “Words Matter” from Ecclesiastes 5:1-7. Solomon doesn’t mince words when it comes to how we speak—especially in our relationship with God.
“Do not be hasty to speak, and do not be impulsive to make a speech before God. God is in heaven and you are on earth, so let your words be few.” (Ecclesiastes 5:2)
In a world that often values speaking quickly and saying more, Solomon urges us to slow down, listen well, and speak with reverence—especially when we speak to God.
Key Takeaways from This Week’s Message:
Reverence > Rhetoric. God isn’t impressed with religious-sounding words—He desires hearts that mean what they say.
Promises matter. When we make commitments to God, we’re called to follow through. It’s better not to promise than to promise and not fulfill.
Worship begins with listening. Often, the wisest approach to God is to pause, listen, and reflect before speaking.
As Solomon reminds us, words have weight. Let’s be people who speak truth, keep our word, and approach God with humble, reverent hearts.
Coming This Weekend: A Simple Gift
Next up in our journey through Ecclesiastes is “A Simple Gift” from Ecclesiastes 5:10-20. In this passage, Solomon reflects on the emptiness of chasing wealth and the surprising joy found in the ordinary gifts of life—like food, work, and rest—when they’re received with gratitude and contentment.
It’s a powerful reminder that simplicity is often where God’s richest blessings are found.
We can’t wait to see you this weekend as we continue seeking the wisdom that helps us live well—right here, right now.
