Ecclesiastes ep.4: Beyond the Grind

This past weekend, we continued our Chasing the Wind series with Beyond the Grind, focusing on Ecclesiastes 2:18-26. In this passage, Solomon wrestles with the reality of work, toil, and the fleeting nature of human effort. Despite all his achievements, he realizes that labor apart from God ultimately leads to frustration.

Here are a few key takeaways from the message:

  • Work without God feels meaningless. Solomon laments that all his efforts and wisdom will one day be passed on to others who may not value them. Without an eternal perspective, work can feel like an exhausting cycle.
  • God gives true satisfaction. While striving alone leads to emptiness, Solomon acknowledges that joy, rest, and fulfillment come as gifts from God to those who trust in Him.
  • We are meant to work with purpose. Instead of laboring anxiously, we are invited to see work as an opportunity to honor God, steward His blessings, and find contentment in what He provides.

As we go into this week, here are a few ways to put this into practice:

  1. Shift your mindset. See your work—whether at home, in your career, or in ministry—as an opportunity to glorify God.
  2. Rest in God’s provision. Instead of striving endlessly for success, trust that God provides both purpose in work and peace in rest.
  3. Find joy in the everyday. Ask God to help you recognize and appreciate the simple blessings He has given you in your daily routine.
