Ecclesiastes ep.1: Under the Sun
This weekend, we began an exciting journey through the book of Ecclesiastes with our new series, Chasing Meaning. Over the next 17 weeks, we’ll explore the timeless wisdom of this Old Testament book, discovering what it means to live a life that honors God and finds meaning beyond the temporary things of this world.
In Ecclesiastes 1:2, the Teacher sets the tone with a sobering reflection: “Meaningless! Meaningless!” says the Teacher. “Utterly meaningless! Everything is meaningless.” These words challenge us to look beyond the fleeting nature of life “under the sun” and seek the eternal perspective that only God provides.
Here’s what you can expect during this series:
- A thoughtful journey through Ecclesiastes. Week by week, we’ll unpack its profound lessons on the human experience, purpose, and the sovereignty of God.
- Pausing for special moments. While we’ll stay rooted in Ecclesiastes, our series will be complemented by three key breaks:
- A weekend with guest speaker Dr. Richard Blackaby.
- A 3-week series on Spiritual Gifts, equipping us to discover and use the gifts God has given us for His glory.
- An inspiring Easter message celebrating the resurrection of Jesus and the hope we have in Him.
This week, we were reminded that life “under the sun” can feel futile and repetitive when we lose sight of eternity. But Ecclesiastes invites us to see beyond the surface, anchoring our lives in the eternal promises of God.
As we embark on this journey, here are a few ways to engage:
- Read and Reflect. Spend time in Ecclesiastes 1:1-11 this week, reflecting on its insights and questions.
- Invite a friend. Ecclesiastes speaks to the universal search for meaning. This is a great opportunity to invite someone to join us as we explore these truths together.
- Pray for wisdom. Ask God to reveal His purpose and guidance through this series, helping you grow deeper in your faith.
We’re excited for what God will do in and through us as we dive into this incredible book. Thank you for being part of this journey—we’re looking forward to growing together as we uncover the wisdom of Ecclesiastes.
