The Book of Daniel Ep. 5: The Writing’s on the Wall

“Mockery is ultimately a symptom of a heart turned away from God. It is the voice of pride, rebellion, and unbelief. Yet, even for mockers, the door to repentance is not closed.”

While Nebuchadnezzar’s pride led to humility and restoration, his descendant Belshazzar chose a different path. One marked by arrogance, defiance, and mockery of the holy.

In Daniel 5, we witnessed a king who hosted a feast in full rebellion against God, drinking from sacred vessels and praising idols. But in a moment, the revelry was shattered. A hand appeared and wrote a message on the wall. Words that no one could interpret except Daniel.

Mene, Mene, Tekel, Parsin.

Numbered. Weighed. Divided.

The message was clear: God had measured Belshazzar’s life and found him lacking. That very night, his kingdom fell.

Key Takeaways:

  • God’s patience is great, but His justice is certain.
  • What we do with what we’ve been given matters.
  • A life lived apart from God will eventually face judgment.
  • The writing is still on the wall for those who reject Him, but for those who trust Him, there is still time to respond.
