The Book of Daniel Ep. 9: A Prayer for Mercy

“God tolerates even our stammering, and pardons our ignorance whenever something inadvertently escapes us – as, indeed, without this mercy there would be no
freedom to pray.”

– John Calvin

In Daniel 9, we saw a different side of Daniel. Not interpreting visions or defying kings, but falling to his knees in intercession.

His prayer wasn’t for favor, but for forgiveness. He didn’t plead Israel’s case based on their worthiness, but on God’s mercy. With humility and urgency, Daniel confessed the sins of his people and asked God to turn His face back toward them.

It was a model for all of us: when the world is falling apart, the people of God fall to their knees.

Key Takeaways:

  • True prayer begins with repentance, not requests.
  • God’s mercy isn’t earned. It’s freely given to the humble.
  • Even in exile, God invites His people to seek His face.
  • Daniel teaches us that revival begins not with power, but with prayer.

Coming Up: “The Messiah Revealed” (Daniel 9:20–27)

This weekend, we’ll stay in Daniel 9, but shift from confession to revelation. In response to Daniel’s prayer, God sends a message that reaches far beyond Babylon. It’s a prophecy that points to the coming of the Anointed One, the Messiah, and sets a timeline that would change history.

Come ready to see how God’s promises find their yes in Jesus and how the ancient words of Daniel still echo with hope today.
